By now, the exciting news has leaked out – that I have red hair. Well, I have always had red hair, but now it is REALLY RED HAIR.
For most women, the choice of hair color is not a piddling concern, but likely not life-changing. For me, it is very likely to be.

Happy Weekend, babies!! Try out this spectacular drink from the Farmer’s Cabinet in Philadelphia called The Apricot Cocktail. My best guess at the recipe…

Despite being a mix of genders – at least when I am Janie – I try to come off as one or the other. And, I do so with good reason.
We live in society – y’know, among other people. 99% (a rough, but undoubtedly fair approximation) understand gender in the binary sense – and to a large extent, so do I.
Presenting oneself outside this presumption will surely turn heads, and likely noses too. If you have a renegade complex, maybe that suits you; it doesn’t me.

Lovely night out, I had.
I met a guy who treated me wonderfully, respectfully, romantically. Ok, so he wasn’t an Adonis, but I found that it mattered less and less as the evening wore on.
We talked and flirted for quite a while. We even talked about food and drink and restaurants, and bandied about the idea of him taking me out for dinner in the future.
Eventually, he leaned in and kissed me. Nice.
Sadly, it was all downhill from there.

Ah, the mysteries of hair color… They say that blondes have more fun. Heck they say I’m blonde… What do they know?
I’m a redhead – the rarest of the basic hair colors. We natural redheads constitute only 1-2% of humanity. Of redheads, Johnathan Swift wrote,
“It is observed that the red-haired of both sexes are more libidinous and mischievous than the rest, whom yet they much exceed in strength and activity.”
Explains a lot… 😉

Anyhoo…

I decided to make a trial run of my return to being Janie today.
I don’t know why I chose this particular moment; I had to rush like mad to get ready if I was to make my appointed rounds. And, after so long, I wasn’t sure whether I would remember everything – the makeup, the jewelry, the purse, the walking, the voice. But, I had decided, and when a girl makes up her mind, there’s no reasoning with her.
Or, maybe that’s just me.

How fast a year goes by, but here we are again in January, and it is time for the 2nd annual “In the Pink Award.”
The inaugural award was an occasion of unabashedly debatable distinction, chronicled by media outlets far and wide… ahem… beginning and ending here, on my blog.
Quip as I might, it is entirely self-deprecating, with not a smidgeon of deprecation left over for the honoree. My admiration and respect for the winner (and now winners) is utterly genuine and heartfelt.

On the occasion of the new year, I have been going through past photos and seeing how I have changed over time.
Here’s one from a few years back, when my hair was much shorter than it is now.
So tell me, do you prefer me with long hair, short hair or somewhere in between?

Take me as I am! This girl doesn’t always smile. Sometimes she can be sultry, sometimes she can be miserable… sometimes she can try to look sultry and end up looking miserable. Oh, well!

As I was walking around town the other day, I’d take an interest from time to time in whether people noticed that I was not a genetic girl – was I passing?
Trying to be subtle, I could only guess, but I do believe some people “made” me, though no one said or did anything overt. It is possible it was entirely in my mind.
More interesting, however, was that I started to realize that seeing how well I passed was more of a sport than anything to me; I didn’t really care.
