No doubt you have taken note of the movie, Albert Nobbs, starring Glenn Close, currently in theaters.
It is to state the obvious that once again, we transfolk and gender-benders should be delighted with our now regular inclusion in mainstream media.
Let’s take a moment to think about how much acceptance it takes to have a movie like this made, or have a transgender model on America’s Next Top Model, or walking down the high-fashion runways all over the world.
It is easy to complain; let’s take joy where we can find it.

I am saddened and dismayed to learn of the spate of violence against trans people that has hit Washington, DC.
Deoni Jones, a 23 year old transgender woman was fatally stabbed on Thursday night at a bus stop in North-Eastern Washington just a few days ago.
Police, understandably, are hesitant to jump to the obvious conclusion that this is a hate crime, but I suspect they will in time. And this is why:

I was getting on just fine with this guy I met at my fave bar.
Physical attraction? Check. Personal connection? Check. Mutual desire? Check.
We were doing pretty well.
“C’mon, let’s go,” he said.
In the course of our conversation, he had described some of the things he wanted to do to me and the way he would treat me, and what he would have me do to him, and it was exactly as if he was reading my fantasies to me. (Perhaps not the classiest things in the world to say to me at our first meeting, but I was in a forgiving mood. :P)
I tossed around the possibilities in my mind. Should I? …
(Conclusion, next week.)

I have often wondered whether I am being unduly generous with myself in allowing that I might be two spirits in one body.
But then, I have an experience that reinforces the truth of that assertion.
I was out and about yesterday, doing my thing in a pretty patterned skirt, pink tights and a white top – and yet I felt every bit a man. It was a bizarre feeling of being trapped inside these feminine clothes, and having to force every girly action. I was totally pretending.
I was feeling strong and somewhat aggressive and practical; not the slightest bit soft.
I remember saying to myself, “These stupid shoes – how am I supposed to get anywhere in these!?” And, “Why am I doing this?”

Yeah, so I left God out of the title – but this is not about her, this is about grace.
I haven’t really felt all that girly the past few days as work has bogged me down. I scarcely had time for any exercise.
But, today, I demanded from myself that I step away from the computer and do some yoga.
And what do you know, ten minutes into the practice of this graceful, spiritual form of exercise, my feminine spirit was soaring.

Wow.
I am obviously out-to-lunch on what issues will resonate with you all out there.
I was sure that relaying that episode about coming within an inch of being discovered would bring out all sorts of comments about similar experiences, counsel on wise behavior, discussion of risk and need and so on.
But, I got nothing. Just a big, flat thud. A lead balloon.
Go figure.

The title of this post comes from one of many punchlines in the brilliant 1960s TV series “Get Smart.” Come to think of it, the title of that series is probably some pretty good advice I should be sternly imparting to myself after today’s events.
Sometimes I think I must lead a charmed life…
Today, I was walking down the street when I heard someone calling my name from behind me. I had just exited a shoe store, in which I had been examining a pair of shiny silver pumps, so hearing my male name startled me a bit. I turned around to find the wife of a close friend of mine smiling at me.

Another first for me… I went to a lingerie store and picked out a couple of bras to try on.
Normally, I shop in department stores for this kind of thing, and just make a guess, then take them home and try them and return them if necessary. Also, I usually let GF pay, so she can be the one to return them.
Anyway, there was a cute girl dressed in the lingerie store’s own PJ’s in charge of the fitting area. As I approached, she asked me how many items I had, and then, noting the bras, asked their size. Thereafter, she escorted me to my change room, telling me that she had been trained in fitting bras, and would be only to happy to check the fit for me once I had tried them on.

Picked up a morning coffee at Stumptown Roasters (yet another terrific NYC cafe!) before heading to Penn Station to catch a train to Philadelphia cheesesteaks!
Oh, yes. I do follow my stomach (unless there are more tantalizing temptations to distract me. 😉 )
So, there we are, having boarded the train with our two large valises, when GF gives me “the look.” Yes, dear, I know…
Suddenly, it is this girl’s duty to heave those suitcases onto the overhead rack – and from the stares that came my way, I was either being perceived as an incredibly able-bodied woman or, well, you know…

I was searching online last night for a bar or nightlife in Manhattan that welcomed t-girls, and came across an interesting, but I guess not altogether surprising, phenomenon:
There is pretty well no way to search for anything tgirl without getting utterly mucked up and mired in pornography and prostitution. The search engines have so much of that crap tied to tgirl, or any synonym, that a search is pretty much useless.
The same, incidentally, is true of blogs.
The vast majority of so-called tgirl blogs are simply ads for porn sites.
Is this an indication of something wrong with us? Or what?
