This whole crossdressing thing is a second adolescence for me. Adolescence is the time when you are discovering your body, your sexuality, your limitations, and it is a wonderful time that is wistfully recalled by most people but impossible to recapture. It didn’t feel as wonderful then as we now know it was.

One of the things about being a girl is the constant need to take care of your skin, cleaning – without soap, and moisturizing – without oil.
The cleaning part is pretty clear cut, in the sense that soap is bad for your face and other cleansers are preferable. But the story on moisturizers is quite murky. I spent a day giving myself a large migraine trying to sort out what ingredients should and should not be in my moisturizers, and what products pass the test.
I found many a warning from “organic” websites and other health experts to the effect that cosmetics companies are sneaky, underhanded businesses

Remember those Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons?
I used to love watching those, especially the beginning, when they would show the coyote hopelessly chasing the roadrunner on foot with a napkin ’round his neck and a fork and knife in his hands, then freezing the frame and labeling him with some made-up latin description like “Carnivorous Vulgaris” and then the same treatment for the roadrunner… something like “Accelerati Incredibilus.”
I had to laugh reading labels on moisturizers (the things I do for you), trying to find ones without cheap oil in them and coming across several containing Paraffinum Liquidum… Well, hardy har har!
Liquid wax… Mineral oil… Nice try! Or should I say, Excellentum Effortum!

This morning I went to a seminar on how to make your voice more feminine. Not surprisingly, the upshot was that if you move like a woman, gesture like a woman, intonate like a woman and so on, the pitch of your voice – unless you have a deep bass Johnny Cash-type voice – is not that big a factor in passing as female.

Many people, at the first sign of winter, will start pining for a sunny beach vacation in Cancun or in the Caribbean. Not me. I love the changing seasons, and each has its charms for me.
It snowed here yesterday and last night. It never ceases to amaze me, the inner feeling of peace and joy I get from walking about on a calm night while snow falls softly from the sky.
The town is always quiet and it makes me quiet. Winter quiet is different than summer, when crickets and other noises of nature’s life are always there. Nature is resting in heavenly peace right now. There’s no wind. It doesn’t feel cold at all. And, places that are normally dark and scary at night, like parks, are lit up by the reflection of the moonlight in the white snow.

I was a bit tired today as I still haven‘t had a decent night‘s sleep since I went to Provincetown, but I still dragged my butt out tonight to the Block Party in Toronto‘s gay village.
As I was looking for a parking spot, I saw so many beautiful young cross dressers, all so nice and friendly, waving or smiling at me, or in one case snapping her whip for me!

By the 5th day there has been some attrition. A couple of my new friends have left and one had to abandon his female self for the rest of the week for the sake of the sanity of his partner. There has been some heavy drinking happening, and I don’t really know how much of it is just in good fun and how much is a symptom of problems.
For my part, I have been unable to sleep for more than 6 hours in any one night and so I am physically and emotionally pooped. I went out today as completely androgynous as possible, dropping any semblance of effort to appear as the fabulous woman that I am. I’m not used to being a girl for this long without interruption and that pesky guy in me wants to come up for air. My girlfriend misses him a bit too. But if for some reason I have momentarily forgotten, when I crawl out of bed and look at myself in the mirror and brush away my tousled hair from my eyes with my hand and I notice those beautiful deep purple nails, it hits me again that Janie’s still here and I love her.
Truly, I am having such fun being a girl! Just the way I walk transforms me into a female state,

What a miserable day it was here! Cold, raining, strong blowing winds off the ocean…
In a place where walking is the preferred mode of transportation, every outing required reconsideration. Is it worth it?
Well, we only have a week in this fantasyland, so better make the best of it. This is also the day when a bunch of new people arrive for the second half.
In the spirit of my determination to participate, I decided to be in the fashion show given by the Fair every year to raise money for a local charity. The weather kept many people away, but we did alright. Liz and Robyn do such a nice job making all the girls feel like they are beautiful divas and giving us the training and preparation to do the show. Of course, then, when they have you onstage with nowhere to run,

It’s Day 2 of Fantasia Fair and I am sitting here in the Purple Feather Coffee Shop writing my thoughts. Every time I look up I see one or two crossdressers on the sidewalk outside the storefront windows. From time to time one of them comes in here and orders a coffee. For a crossdresser, it is such a different feeling to be hanging out in a place where you are just another person; it is understood that your lifestyle is completely off the charts everywhere else, but here it is as if there is a world where we can just live a normal life – even if you are a rank beginner.
