2012First Halloween Party
The Saturday night before Halloween is often the best party night of the holiday, as people can stay out late and let loose.
With Halloween on Wednesday night, and people having to get up for work on Thursday, the parties do get a bit sparse after a few hours, and the incredible efforts some folks put into their costumes don’t get their full return. So, Saturday night’s the night.
I was pretty much in awe of the shindig thrown by the Subspace people (http://www.subspacelive.ca/) at a place called the Opera House. The venue was decked out professionally to look its ghoulish best, the soaring ceilings and terrific lighting system made for an amazing space, and the shows they did on stage were equally impressive.
But, most of all, there were the costumes. So many creative souls out there in the Subspace community… Of course some were bought – but not at your average costume store; there was a female Captain America in latex (wow!) and her Spiderman guy, also in latex (wow again!), there were ghouls with large teeth and claws, oversize skulls atop beatiful women, latex nuns, characters from horror movies like Psycho, hangmen, wrestlers… you name it. Most every costume was really well done.
My costume was feeble by comparison – a store-bought Warrior Princess that garnered a few compliments, much to my surprise, considering the competition.
We had a nice time, though I am always disappointed that it is so difficult to meet people at parties like this. You can’t hear what anyone is saying, and there are too many distractions. Then again, the distractions are what make the party, right?

Gabriela
Much to my surprise?
Girl, this costume is AMAZING.
I LOVE the photo where you’re leaning on the wall.
Janie
Thanks, Gabriela. I didn’t think it was bad, but compared to what was on display at that party, it was really nothing special.
Klyde
It probably wasn’t the costume so much as how hot you looked in it.
Janie
Thanks, darling.
Joni Roberta
You do look good in the costume!
And it’s great that you got to enjoy it at a party.
Janie
Thank you – and welcome 🙂
