I’ve been Ma’am-ed before on several occasions while in male mode, but this is a whole new thing.
When someone refers to you as “Ma’am,” they see you as a blank stranger – another person in line, a customer, someone in their way… whatever.
But, today, I was getting on the plane, and a fairly good-looking man in his 40s or 50s stepped out of the aisle to let me pass, looking straight into my eyes with a smile and softly saying, “Go ahead, dear.”
Certainly not an affirmation of my masculinity, that’s for sure!
I am equal parts puzzled, concerned and pleased.

Has common sense gone out the window? Have people no sense of decorum, or consideration for others?
I could do no better than to shake my head in disappointment and shame after reading a story published by SF Weekly (their blogs section @ /thesnitch/2011/06/crossdressing_man_us_airways.php) late last month. It concerned the denial of boarding privileges to a black football player who was wearing sagging baggy pants that exposed his underwear, while, in a separate incident, allowing a white man in his 60s to board wearing only a bra and panties. This whole episode offends me on so many levels.

Today was travel day, and I decided to wear a flirty, flouncy sundress and high-heeled sandals. I wanted to feel as feminine as possible before I return to the drudgery of life tomorrow.
Kudos once again to the security people for not even flinching as they perused my passport.
And, thanks to the security officer who smiled at me and complimented my dress.
